Wicksy's Wash & Wax has been operating in Toowoomba for more than 35 years. In that time I have detailed over 10,000 vehicles and worked through every generation of paint protection available to the trade: hand wax, polymer sealants, and now ceramic coatings. When ceramic coating became the standard for serious, long-term paint protection, I went through GTECHNIQ's certification program. Their accreditation is not a weekend course. They assess prep technique, application environment, and finishing process. You meet the standard or you do not receive the certification.

The temperature-controlled coating room is the same principle applied to infrastructure. Ceramic coatings bond chemically to the clear coat during their cure window. Temperature variation, humidity, and airborne contamination all affect how that bond forms. An open workshop cannot control those variables. The room does. Temperature is set. Airflow is managed. Contamination is excluded. Every ceramic coating I apply is applied in that room, in the conditions the product is designed for.

That is the infrastructure behind the certification, and the reason the results hold the way they are rated to.

From a full detail to GTECHNIQ ceramic coating

Every job starts with the right preparation. Services are structured from entry-level care through to long-term ceramic protection.

No two vehicles are in the same condition. Before any protection goes on, I inspect the paint and tell you what it needs. That conversation happens before a quote, and it is how you get the right service for your vehicle rather than the most expensive one.

Full Detail

A thorough top-to-bottom clean. Exterior wash and decontamination, interior vacuum and wipe-down, glass, wheels and tyres. This is the foundation service and the prerequisite for any paint protection work that follows.

Paint Correction

Machine polishing to remove swirl marks, fine scratches and oxidation from the clear coat. One-stage or multi-stage, depending on the condition of the paint. I assess the paint first and quote for what it actually requires. Paint correction is the necessary step before any ceramic coating is applied: the coating locks in what is under it.

Headlight Restoration

Yellowed or hazy lenses reduce both appearance and light output. Wet-sand, machine polish, and protective coating restore clarity and seal the surface against UV degradation.

New Vehicle Protection

Dealer preparation can leave polishing trails and surface contamination on paint that appears new. I inspect, correct what needs correcting, and apply a coating before the vehicle picks up its first genuine mark.

A single-layer GTECHNIQ ceramic coating providing 12 months of hydrophobic protection. Applied after full decontamination and a one-stage polish to prepare the surface. Suited to daily drivers who want a meaningful step above conventional wax.

Coated Vehicle Maintenance Wash

Ceramic-coated vehicles require washing techniques and products that do not degrade the coating. I offer a scheduled maintenance wash service for vehicles I have coated, using appropriate chemistry and contact methods. A coated vehicle washed incorrectly is a coated vehicle that does not last.

The Wicksy's Difference

Why the environment your coating is applied in determines how long it lasts.

Ceramic coating chemistry is well-established: a liquid polymer bonds to the clear coat during application and cures into a hard, hydrophobic layer. The chemistry is reliable. What varies is the result, and the variable that drives that outcome is the application environment.

Ceramic coatings cure in the first 24-48 hours after application. During that window, temperature determines how efficiently the product bonds to the surface. Too cold, and the curing process slows or stalls. Too humid, and surface moisture competes with the coating's adhesion. Airborne contamination settling on uncured product creates inclusions that cannot be removed without cutting back into the paint and starting again.

Operating in an uncontrolled environment, those factors are unpredictable. My coating room is sealed and temperature-managed. Before any ceramic coating begins, the environment is set. That is the controlled condition the product is rated for, and the condition under which the GTECHNIQ warranty applies.

If you are considering a significant investment in paint protection, the facility it is applied in is not a minor variable. It is most of what determines whether the result matches the rating.

What is the difference between ceramic coating and wax?
Wax sits on the surface of the paint and wears off over weeks or months. Ceramic coating forms a chemical bond with the clear coat and cures into a hard, semi-permanent layer. It is significantly harder than wax, resistant to minor chemical and mechanical abrasion, and hydrophobic: water beads and sheets off the surface. The protection lasts years, not weeks, and does not require the repeated application that wax does.
How long does ceramic coating last?
It depends on which coating is applied and how the vehicle is maintained. Entry-level GTECHNIQ coatings are rated to 12 months. Mid-grade coatings extend to around two years. GTECHNIQ Crystal Serum Ultra, the flagship product I apply in the coating room, is rated up to nine years. All ratings assume the vehicle is hand washed using appropriate products and not run through automatic car washes with brush contact.
Does my vehicle need paint correction before ceramic coating?
In most cases, yes. Ceramic coating bonds to and preserves the surface it is applied to. If there are swirl marks, fine scratches or oxidation in the paint, the coating seals them in rather than concealing them. I inspect every vehicle before quoting and advise exactly what paint correction is required. I do not quote for work the paint does not need.
How long will my vehicle be with you?
A full ceramic coating job, including the necessary paint correction and cure time in the coating room, takes one to three days depending on the condition of the paint and the coating selected. I give you a specific timeframe at the time of quoting, not an estimate after the job has started.
What makes your coating room different from working in a shed?
Temperature, humidity and contamination control. Ceramic coatings cure in the first 24-48 hours after application. Temperature swings slow the curing process or affect bond strength. High humidity introduces moisture that competes with adhesion. Dust and airborne contamination settle on uncured product and create defects that require cutting back into the paint to remove. My coating room eliminates all three variables. The product cures in the conditions it is designed for, and the result holds the way it is rated to.
What does GTECHNIQ certified mean?
GTECHNIQ is a UK-based coating manufacturer with a formal applicator certification program. Certified applicators are assessed on preparation technique, application environment, and finishing process before they are authorised to apply GTECHNIQ's professional-grade product range. The certification is manufacturer-backed and verifiable.
Do you come to me, or do I bring the vehicle to you?
Vehicles come to me. The coating room is the reason the ceramic coating results hold. I cannot replicate those conditions at a customer's location. My facility is in Toowoomba. If you are further afield, call me to discuss the logistics.
Do you show pricing on the site?
No. Ceramic coating price varies with vehicle size, paint condition, and the preparation required before any product is applied. A price without that context is not a useful number. Call me, tell me about the vehicle, and I will give you an accurate quote.
Can I wash my vehicle after it has been coated?
Not for the first 24-48 hours while the coating is curing. After that, hand washing with a pH-neutral shampoo using the two-bucket method is the correct approach. Automatic car washes with brush contact will degrade any ceramic coating over time. If I have coated your vehicle, I offer a scheduled maintenance wash service using products and techniques appropriate to a coated surface.
